Facility Detail
The Gold Coast Room,
situated in the north
central section of The
Drake, has an architectural
style that is purely
Italian. The colonnade of
columns carries a spiral of
vines covered in tones of
cream and gold; the floor of
Tennessee marble; the
chandeliers of crystal. This
room, used primarily for
large weddings and banquets,
extends 124' long x 52'
wide. The windows on the
north overlook East Lake
Shore Drive, beautiful Lake
Michigan, and a small park.
This room can seat up to 700
people.
The Grand Ballroom is
sufficiently large enough to
seat 600 people utilizing
the balconies. This room of
Georgian architectures has
many unique features. A
balcony extends around the
room on all four sides.
There is a hardwood floor
conducive to dancing,
illumination by eight
crystal chandeliers, and art
wall sconces. The lighting
system can be controlled for
optimum or minimum lighting.
It is grandly proportioned
for the entertainment of
large parties and so placed
in the southeast corner of
the main floor, away from
the regular business of the
hotel. This room also has a
movie projection booth
skillfully concealed when
not in use.
The French Room, 54' x
72', is a cheerful,
beautifully decorated room
in the Louis XVI period; its
square French columns are
adorned with ribbon relief.
Located on the northeast
corner of the building, the
French Room windows allow
views of Lake Michigan,
Michigan Avenue, and Lake
Shore Drive. This room is
one of the most popular
banquet rooms in the hotel,
lending itself well for
large receptions.
Vehicle and Heavy
Equipment Access:
The Grand Ballroom is
suitable for heavy
equipment, exhibits and even
automobiles. Access is
available through the hotel
garage and the Walton Room.

Coq d'Or
The Coq d'Or opened its
doors the day after
Prohibition was repealed and
has been packing in the
crowds ever since. Local
residents delight in
Executive Cocktails (4 oz),
wines, beers, and cigars,
after work, dinner, or a
show. The friendly staff
knows many by name and is
delighted to recommend food
to suit any taste. Corned
beef hash with eggs, chili
con carne, sandwiches,
Bookbinder soup, turkey with
mashed potatoes and gravy,
salads, desserts, and much
more are all extremely
reasonably priced and
available from 11:00
Cape Cod Room
Known as "the best
seafood restaurant in
town", the Cape Cod
Room has captured awards
from around the world.
Favorites such as
Bookbinder's soup with
sherry, Dover sole, Maryland
crabcakes, and halibut en
papilotte are specialties of
the house, but making a
choice is difficult with six
lobster dishes, five shrimp
dishes, bouillabaisse, and
much more.
Oak Terrace
Breakfast and lunch are
served in an atmosphere of
fresh greenery and soft oak
wood. The freshness of this
room flourishes with
sweeping views of Lake
Michigan and Lake Shore
Drive. Popular, reasonably
priced menu. Open daily 6:30
AM to 2:30 PM. Elegantly
spread Sunday Brunch
featured from 11:30 AM to
2:30 PM.
Palm Court
This elegant, yet relaxing,
room, located in the hotel's
upper Lobby is the perfect
spot to enjoy English
afternoon tea from 1:00 PM
to 5:00 PM, served daily.
Cocktails are served from
1:30 AM to midnight. A jazz
trio is featured every
Friday and Saturday night
from 8:30 PM until 11:30 PM.

Drake suites are
stylishly furnished with
complete comfort in mind.
Parlors have views of the
city or Lake Michigan. In
your room you will find
thoughtful details like
bathrobes and slippers,
executive desks, a CD
player, and newspapers
delivered every morning.
The Presidential Suite
On the 5th floor of The
Drake Hotel is a
masterpiece! The six-room
home for dignitaries houses
antiques, "objects
d'art", appointments,
specially designed carpets,
crystal, and mirrors that
sparkle with elegance.
Several antique pieces are
original Drake pieces that
were refinished and
recovered. Much of the
furniture, paintings, and
ceramics were purchased from
Chicago's own Marshall
Fields. A French crystal
chandelier, with amethyst
and amber crystal fruit,
adorns the formal dining
room of this suite; the
total effect of the suite is
one of regal comfort. Since
this suite was created, and
completed in January 1982,
the Prime Minister of
Australia, the Prime
Minister of Tunisia, the
Queen of Thailand, the
Italian President, Nancy
Reagan, Princess Diana, and
Queen Beatrix of the
Netherlands have all enjoyed
the royal atmosphere of The
Drake's Presidential Suite.
It is truly worthy of the
Grande Dame.
